Principal's Corner

October 2016

The first month of the 2016 - 2017 school year at Appleby has vanished so quickly! I was pleased to welcome our students and impressed by how quickly they left behind the carefree days of summer and adjusted to the routines of school.

Once again this year our district theme is “Connect, Learn, Collaborate.” Appleby students and teachers are continuing to increase their knowledge and use of laptops and Chrome books through meaningful classroom activities. Through our “Digital Techknowledgy” class, our students will learn the responsible use of technology for research and productivity, utilizing educational applications. Students will develop skills in keyboarding, creativity, collaboration, communication, persistence, and problem solving. These 21st Century skills will prepare them for College and Career readiness.

A main focus will include an understanding of digital citizenship and the ability to demonstrate an understanding of the personal consequences of inappropriate use of technology and social media. The Gmail accounts they receive at Appleby will be with them until they graduate high school. This will allow the students to create a portfolio where they will be able to look back and reflect on their progress over the course of their educational experience as well as enable their teachers to view their educational growth.

An additional goal for Appleby School is “building bridges.” We will continue to take advantage of opportunities and build bridges between and among home, school and community.

We look forward to a year filled with new discoveries and great adventures in learning!
