On December 2, 2014, many of our third, fourth and fifth graders transformed themselves into science teachers and scientists as they guided Spotswood Board of Education members through the “scientific method” and hands on experiments during a board meeting. Third grade students explained to Board members how an electric circuit works. The students challenged the adults to “make the light bulb light with one wire!” Fourth grade students demonstrated the water cycle while fifth grade students quizzed Board members about mixtures and solutions: particularly the various concentrations of Kool Aid!! Our “hands on” science program encourages students to work together with classmates to make hypotheses and solve problems.
